Abstract

This article analyzes the impact and role of the social, family, and community environment in criminal desistance, re-education, and social reintegration in the context of sexual offenses, as these are one of the types of crimes that can generate the greatest social alarm. Joint, coordinated, and transdisciplinary interventions with this group, as well as with their reference socio-family and community environments, are key to preventing potential future criminal behavior. Changing the intervention paradigm and integrating a social perspective into prison treatment will optimize its outcomes.

Relational connections and social interactions are key aspects for overcoming criminal behavior: community involvement in prison treatment is urgently needed. Reference environments and the support they offer will facilitate the re-education and social reintegration process for people deprived of their liberty or other rights. This article focuses on theoretical reflection on sexual violence, the treatment of perpetrators, and the involvement of the socio-family and community environment as fundamental elements on which the process of desistance and overcoming criminal behavior must be based.
