Employability and job prospects for migrant youth, refugees, and asylum seekers in Spain

This paper defines the concepts of migrant, refugee, and asylum seeker, analysing the labour rights and socioeconomic situation that define both the theory and practice of “employability” for each of these three legal categories. Firstly, the study focuses on the challenges and employment prospects that these social groups face or are likely to face in the future; secondly, on the influence that their socio-cultural context has on their socio-occupational integration in the current Spanish labour market; and thirdly, on the effectiveness of policies, programmes and strategies for the labour integration of young migrants. It is finally observed that many of the people who make up these groups experience particular difficulties and vulnerability in finding work (and housing), which is partly due to structural racial discrimination inherent in Spanish society.
