New contributions to the knowledge of charophytes in south-western Spain

Sampling of charophytes (Characeae family) in locations in South-western Spain (marshlands and temporary brackish lakes in Doñana National Park, Malaga, Seville and Badajoz), as well as germination tests in laboratory conditions using sediment, have revealed 16 new findings regarding charophyte algae in Spain. Of particular relevance are the taxa described for the Campillos and Utrera Lagoon Complex and the province of Badajoz. New locations are described for Doñana NP. The information corresponds to three different genera of charophytes: Chara (4 species), Lamprothamnium (1) and Nitella (2). All this highlights the interest of these particular habitats.
