Abstract

Vicente Carducho and Eugenio Cajés were two of the most important Italian trained Spanish painters working in the Court of Spain of the first half of the 17th century. Both were key figures in the creation of the Madrid school and of its extension and expansion in the second half of the century. They not only collaborated together in a multitude of commissions, but some of the outstanding painters on the second half of the 17th century were formed in their respective studios. 

The present article focuses on the figures of both artists as closely related personages. To do so this paper presents and analyses unknown drawings and paintings that expand their catalogues in both facets of their artistic production, and introduces new approaches of the close personal and professional relationship between the two artists.
