Abstract

The centenary of a relevant publication was commemorated in 2014. In this case, it was Ricardo de Orueta’s monograph about the sculptor Pedro de Mena y Medrano, who was a Granada artist from the second half of the 17th century. In this article, we analyze some aspects of the methodology, some help that the author received from two historians of Ma?laga, and the questions Orueta had about the authorship of some sculptures. We also comment on the erroneous attributions reproduced in other publications related to Orueta, when he studied again this sculptor who had strong working bonds with Ma?laga.
