Abstract

Our study analyzes how the artist’s iconography is adapted to be divulgated by the Spanish periodical magazines El Artista and Semanario Pintoresco Espan?ol. We pay special attention to biographical articles and death notices, where the artist’s portrait begins to develop in the public sphere. e aim of this paper is to track an evolution in this new genre, analyzing any formal di e- rences in this speci c kind of portraiture and their relationship with artistic ideals depending on the magazines’ target audience.
