Abstract

This article analyses two solo exhibitions devoted to women artists from the avant- gardes: Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) and Eileen Gray (1878-1976) by prestigious museums. e paper focuses on how the articulation of the exhibition format legitimates hegemonic discourses of art history through integrating both artists’ work into them; nevertheless, these women work seems to clearly contradict those discourses. Special attention is paid to the uses of discourse and exhibitio- nary strategies, in which any interpretation from gender studies is avoided in spite of the fundamen- tal contributions of the eld to both women’s works.
