Resumen

Antecedentes. En Andalucía se producen más de 8 millones de toneladas de residuos vegetales al año. Los agricultores deben sopesar el gasto que les produce la eliminación de estos productos, por ello muchos optan por quemar estos desechos, produciendo a su vez subproductos contaminantes de la combustión. Así, el equipo iGEM_UMA 2022 con el proyecto StarchSTEM pretende dar una segunda vida a estos residuos vegetales convirtiéndolos en un producto de valor añadido, el almidón.

Metodología. Para hacer frente a esta competición, el equipo iGEM_UMA ha creado un novedoso sistema de organización orgánica en la competición iGEM que permite una visión global y multidisciplinar del problema a la vez que se trabaja en un ambiente sano y comunicativo; en el que el sistema de líderes rotatorios fue muy apreciado por iGEM y también en la sección de jueces.

Conclusiones. Se concluyó que es posible crear un organismo capaz de producir almidón a partir de residuos de celulosa. Además, el sistema orgánico de organización fue destacado por el grupo de jueces como sobresaliente siendo marcado como una innovación nunca antes vista.
