In early medieval town planning, in order to preserve the corners of certain buildings, in the context of intricate and narrow urban fabrics, the need arose to protect the architecture from the friction of carriage traffic. The typologies of architectural protection elements are varied and are known as corner guards, corners or marble guards. These elements proliferated especially in the urban planning of the convent cities of the modern age, becoming urban landmarks, now in disuse. The oblivion to which they are subjected does not prevent them from faithfully continuing to carry out their mission of protecting the corners and walls of our historic buildings. Their past existence gives them a new meaning, and, in the specific case of Malaga, they stand as witnesses and members of an urban planning that is disappearing, becoming de facto elements of high heritage value. This article takes a conceptual analysis of Malaga's esquinal, studying the importance of the aljama model present in the northeast corner of the church of El Sagrario. At the same time, as a necessary complement, we analyse their vulnerabilities and the risks to which they are exposed in an exercise to make them visible and enhance their value.
