This article examines photography as a methodological and pedagogical mediation in artistic creation processes developed in Fine Arts higher education. The study is based on a corpus of methodological narratives written by students of the Master’s Degree in Research in Art and Creation (MIAC-UCM) over two academic years and is approached through an interpretive qualitative methodology based on reflexive thematic analysis. The aim is to understand how photography intervenes in the construction of the creative process, not only as a visual reference but also as an autobiographical archive, a device of memory, a tool for documentation, a repertoire of images, and a mediation between the digital and the material. The findings show that photography plays an active role in different stages of artistic work, functioning as a trigger for the project, a support for visual inquiry, a resource for process tracking, and a space of translation between media such as painting, collage, and installation. The article concludes that, in the Fine Arts classroom, photography operates not only as an autonomous language but also as an expanded pedagogical tool that fosters creation, reflection, and meaning-making through the visual.
