A conversation with the renowned costume designer Sonia Grande, one of the most celebrated and respected professionals in contemporary cinema, both in Spain and internationally. Trained at the Royal Higher School of Dramatic Art, she began her professional career at the Teatro Español in Madrid, where she worked as an actress and assistant costume designer under the direction of masters such as Miguel Narros and Andrea D’Odorico. After a multifaceted start that included on-camera appearances on cultural television programs, from the 1990s onward she dedicated herself fully to film costume design, becoming responsible for the aesthetic of many of the most important Spanish films of the last three decades. Since her debut and subsequent consolidation, she has worked under the direction of some of the most notable directors, such as Alejandro Amenábar, Pedro Almodóvar, Fernando Trueba, Icíar Bollaín, and José Luis Cuerda, in addition to developing a spectacular career in Hollywood and Europe alongside world-renowned filmmakers like Woody Allen, James Gray, and Asghar Farhadi. With a track record that includes two Goya Awards (for *La niña de tus ojos* and *Mientras dure la guerra*), eleven nominations for these awards, and the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts, Sonia Grande has dressed stars such as Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Scarlett Johansson, and Javier Bardem. This is a fascinating journey in which we will discover her vision of the craft of costume design in film through the experiences of this extraordinary artist, an undisputed icon of cinema.
