Thomas Reid and human and animal perception

This article exhibits the theory of perception of the senses by the Scottish Enlightenment philosopher Thomas Reid (1710-1796), as a notionist conception, developed in his texts of 1764 and 1785, and compares it with the idealist theory that can be attributed to George Berkeley and David Hume. Reid’s proposals are attached with those on perception from today, vindicated by neuroscientist, Antonio Damasio. The conclusion of this text declares that Reidian theory can be linked clearly with an Anti-Protagorism suggested by contemporary science.
