Abstract

This article offers a reflexive reconsideration of translation in language education, moving beyond long-standing debates about its legitimacy to explore what translation does within language learning. Rather than positioning translation as either outdated or inherently beneficial, it argues for understanding it as a communicative and socially situated practice whose pedagogical value depends on how it is conceptualised and implemented.
