The emergence of artificial intelligence in the university compels a rethinking of the methodological and ethical foundations of legal education. Far from being a technological resource, AI pervades the design of degree programmes, the choice of active learning methodologies, the assessment of learning outcomes and even the very definition of what it means today to learn to think legally. The analysis explores the tension between the instrumental use of generative systems — as support for writing, information searching or case simulation – and the risks they entail for students’ intellectual autonomy, equity in the classroom, data protection and academic integrity. Drawing on recent literature and teaching experiences in law faculties, the paper identifies scenarios for responsible use and proposes criteria for redesigning activities, marking rubrics and codes of conduct so that the incorporation of AI remains compatible with the centrality of legal reasoning, the cultivation of ethical and digital competences, and preparation for professional practice which is itself undergoing profound technological transformation.
