Abstract

The objective was to evaluate the influence of perceived stress in injuries in competition volleyball players, as well as to evaluate a possible association with sex, age, competition level, kind of injury and duration (an issue increasingly studied in the sports world). 216 volleyball players of both sexes and an average age of 23 years (SD = 5.6%) and from different Spanish clubs participated in the study by answering a telematic questionnaire about perceived stress, injuries and other classification data. The 58.3% suffered an injury in the last season, and its average duration was 5.9 weeks. The average punctuation of stress was 45.3 points (43.3 in men and 46.7 in women, p = 0.011). In conclusion, higher levels of perceived stress mean higher risk of suffering an injury; and higher competition level means higher risk of injury.
