The purpose of this article is
to investigate the personality of God in the
philosophy of G. W. F. Hegel, with particular reference to the Science of Logic and the
Lectures on the Philosophy of Religion. To
this end, the article first examines what,
for Hegel, constitutes the subjectivity of
substance, focusing on the fundamental
structure of self-consciousness; that is to
say, self-mediation through being-other.
Following this, the category of reciprocal
relation (Wechselwirkung) is interpreted
theologically. Finally, love and forgiveness
are presented as the means by which, according to Hegel, one becomes a person.
