Viana Palace, Classical World, mythology in art, tapestries, paintingAbstract
This work studies the works of art related to the classical world that are part of the collections that the different owners — all of them members of the Spanish nobility — of the Viana Palace in Córdoba have been accumulating over time, from the 15th century to the 20th century. In this broad relationship, which had not yet been fully studied, tapestries and paintings occupy a prominent place, but mythology and the classical world, in general, are also present in all types of artistic support: frescoes, engravings, watercolors, sculptures, clocks, vases, miniatures, floats, furniture (chairs, desks), and in places as unexpected as the handles of swords or a screen. The collection is very varied and the iconography is very original; in some cases we make new identifications (upholstery of chairs and reliefs on two desks). Since 1981 the palace has been property of the CajaSur Foundation, which has turned it into a museum.
