Abstract

The transformation of the image of women over the last half century has widely been tackled by literary criticism from an academic and “elitist” perspective, and doing so, the relevant role that the folk culture has historically played in changing cultural paradigms (from anthology of ballads till pop-art) has been dodged. This article aims to place emphasis on the importance of folk songs in women’s different (and heterodox) image creation in Spanish society in the 1970s and early 1980s that meant a substantial change of female stereotypes in the sociocultural imaginary of the time.
