The invasion suffered by the Ukrainian people on 24 February 2022 has led to the emergence of initiatives from different parts of the world by public and private organisations to tackle this humanitarian crisis. Moved by solidarity, people are also beginning to organise themselves through the associative movement to attend to the more than 4 million refugees who are suffering from having to leave their homes. Segovia, a small city in Spain, does not remain on the sidelines of this civic response, and driven by the Association of Ukrainians of Segovia, we present strategies of coordination, participation and governance that have been developed to ensure that Ukrainians settled in Segovia live, within the difficult context of life crisis, in the best possible way.
We frame this experience by placing value on citizen participation. Through associations and community social work, a harmonious civic coexistence is generated through accompaniment as a process of social intervention. Through the analysis, evolution and evaluation of tools and programmes it is concluded that: In a shared space, through collaborative communication, with the rigour of fact-based intervention and continuous evaluation in a process of constant improvement, a better city is achieved, above all with care.
