In the era of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), searching and locating information is a basic professional competence. For the rest of the disciplines in general, and in Social Work in particular, it is necessary to acquire skills and abilities for the consultation and retrieval of relevant and pertinent information. In academic research, literature review is carried out at an advanced level. In contrast, in the social intervention sector, this practice is less common and less implemented. This article aims to provide basic notions on the review of scientific literature as a first step in the research process, and, on the other hand, to present a novel but simple diagramming system, useful for breaking down the search question as a preliminary step to the literature search.
