Abstract

Two ways of understanding Design practice, its origin and historical justification. The methodology in the process of work of Design. Talent, intuition and creativity as opposed to method and system. Design as “practice of problem solving” and Design as “artistic practice”. The School of Ulm and the ‘postmodern’ stage of Design. What is useful and functional in Modernity as opposed to the emotional values in products. The discredit of authorship in arts, in literature. The search for the vernacular and native in a globalized society. The demand for anonymous ‘creativity’ as a commercial resource. Too much specialization as opposed to ‘being able to see’ in order to understand.
