Primera traducción de Raymond Chandler al español: autocensurada e ilustrada [1943]

On October 15th 1943, Detective por correspondencia was published in Argentina, a translation of Raymond Chandler’s Farewell, My Lovely. This was possible thanks to three Spaniards affected by the Civil War. The translational norm applied was the one in effect in Spain during the Francoism, which included self-censorship.
This Spanish version is the first translation of Farewell, My Lovely in the world and the third of Raymond Chandler’s work. We include a micro textual analysis about the most relevant aspects of the translation strategies and also of the ideological manipulation of the original text in the 1943 version and we compare it with the one published in Spain in 1945. We include, as well, an Annex with the four different denominations which the title has undergone in Spanish until its canonization.
