Running practice. A preventive medicine approach

Objective: To describe the benefits and risks of running, highlighting the preventive recommendations that mitigate the injuries associated with its practice. Methodology: A bibliographic search was carried out in databases such as PubMed, Web Of Science, Cielo, Google Scholar, books and web pages related to running with the selection of the most recent scientific articles. Results: Running offers benefits in the prevention of the development of pathologies with a high morbimortality burden such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and mental health. An adequate previous medical evaluation and an adequate physical and nutritional conditioning plan have demonstrated the reduction of injuries associated with its practice. Conclusion: running has been considered a lifestyle because of its multiple multilevel benefits, so it can be recommended as a preventive strategy in many health conditions, always under counseling strategies that facilitate the runner's safe practice, reducing the risk of injury.
