Statement on the use of generative AI
Statement on the use of generative AI
The journal Umática. Revista sobre Creación y Análisis de la Imagen, in its commitment to responsibility and transparency, establishes that the use of AI tools must be explicitly declared by authors, indicating the tool, the purpose and the scope of its intervention. This statement must be included in the methodology or acknowledgements section of the manuscript. The use of AI cannot replace authors or cause a break in the chain of attribution; that is, the source must always be identified and the corresponding authorship attributed. If this premise is not met, the editorial team will consider these practices to be plagiarism. (Codina, 2024, obtained from: https://www.lluiscodina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/ia-trabajos-academicos-revistas-2024.pdf )
AI tools can be used to support operational tasks, such as assisted writing, style correction, or preliminary data analysis, always respecting the above considerations. They should not be used to interpret results or draw conclusions, given the risk of errors, biases, or incomplete results.

Authorship attributed to AI is not accepted, as these technologies cannot assume legal or ethical responsibility. Human authors must have made a significant contribution to the content and must be able to publicly defend their work in accordance with Elsevier's authorship guidelines (Elsevier, 2017, retrieved from: https://www.elsevier.com/editors/perk/authorship-complaints).
Reviewers may use AI as a support, but it cannot replace critical judgement or expert criteria during the evaluation. It is prohibited to enter confidential information, manuscripts under review, or unpublished data into AI systems without the express consent of the authors and editors. It is imperative not to share sensitive content with AI systems in order to protect the confidentiality of editorial processes and intellectual property.
The journal Umática. Revista sobre Creación y Análisis de la Imagen (Journal on Image Creation and Analysis) is committed to reviewing and updating these standards as technology and associated academic best practices evolve.
