The invitation extended by Professor Jose Luis del Río to enter into conversation with one of his texts (del Río, 2025) gave rise to a reflection on several contemporary academic servitudes, foremost among them the standardization of writing. By gradually unfolding the inner workings of its own writing process, the article moves toward a conception of teaching as a form of quiet resistance. To develop this idea, it turns to The Guest by Albert Camus, exploring the figure of the schoolteacher Daru. The article concludes with the attempt to keep the conversation open.
