The text analyzes the current challenges of teacher education within a social context marked by instability,
misinformation, and the erosion of historically rooted democratic values. Broadly speaking, it describes a
society in which “liquid modernity” has evolved into a “gaseous modernity,” characterized by volatility,
uncertainty, and media manipulation. In this scenario, education has become subordinated to the interests
of a capitalist, neoliberal, and market-driven system that demands adaptability and competitiveness from
new generations rather than critical thinking and social justice. To confront this threat, the author proposes
reclaiming the ethical and humanistic dimension of teacher education, calling for truth, goodness, and
beauty to serve as “guiding principles” that help resist nihilistic tendencies and keep educational hope alive.
