Our Publishing Philosophy

The European Journal of Family Business (EJFB) is committed to an open, transparent, and responsible model of scholarly publishing. The journal operates under a Diamond Open Access model and supports the broad dissemination, accessibility, reproducibility, and long-term preservation of scientific knowledge.

Our publishing model is guided by the principles of Open Science, promoting unrestricted access to research outputs, responsible data sharing, transparency throughout the publication process, and the long-term accessibility of the scholarly record.

Diamond Open Access

EJFB operates under a Diamond Open Access publishing model. The journal charges no fees to authors or readers at any stage of the publication process, including submission, publication, article processing, and access.

All articles are made freely and permanently available online immediately upon publication, ensuring unrestricted access to scientific knowledge worldwide.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain the copyright of their work.

Upon acceptance for publication, authors grant EJFB the right of first publication. All published articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) licence.

This licence permits users to read, download, copy, distribute, reproduce, and adapt published material for non-commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original publication, any modifications are indicated, and derivative works are distributed under the same licence.

Self-Archiving

EJFB encourages authors to maximise the visibility and impact of their research through responsible self-archiving.

Authors are encouraged to deposit their published articles in institutional repositories, disciplinary repositories, personal webpages, or other recognised open access repositories, always acknowledging the journal as the original place of publication and including the article's DOI whenever possible.

Open Science and Research Data

EJFB supports the principles of Open Science by promoting transparency, reproducibility, and responsible sharing of research outputs.

Authors are encouraged, whenever appropriate and ethically possible, to make the data supporting their research openly available through recognised institutional or disciplinary repositories. Data sharing should comply with applicable ethical requirements, legal obligations, confidentiality commitments, and data protection regulations.

The journal encourages authors to follow the FAIR Principles, ensuring that research data are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.

Data Availability Statement

To enhance transparency and reproducibility, authors are encouraged to include a Data Availability Statement in the Title Page submitted with their manuscript.

This statement informs readers whether the data supporting the findings of the study are publicly available, available upon reasonable request, included within the article or supplementary materials, or unavailable for justified ethical or legal reasons.

When provided, the Data Availability Statement will be published as part of the final article.

Persistent Identifiers

All articles published in EJFB receive a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) registered through Crossref, ensuring persistent identification, reliable citation, and long-term discoverability.

Authors are also encouraged to provide their ORCID iD when submitting manuscripts, facilitating the accurate identification of researchers and improving the visibility and interoperability of scholarly outputs.

Digital Preservation and Archiving

EJFB is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of its published content.

The journal implements recognised preservation mechanisms and digital infrastructures to guarantee the permanent availability of the scholarly record, including:

  • the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) for long-term preservation of content published through Open Journal Systems (OJS);
  • LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS) technologies, which contribute to secure distributed preservation;
  • Crossref DOIs, ensuring persistent identification and reliable citation of published articles;
  • the Institutional Repository of the University of Málaga (RIUMA), enhancing the long-term accessibility and visibility of published content; and
  • the OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) protocol, facilitating interoperability and metadata harvesting by repositories, databases, and indexing services.

Together, these services help ensure that the journal's scholarly content remains permanently accessible, citable, and discoverable.

Publication Schedule

EJFB publishes two issues per year, in June and December. Articles are published online as part of the corresponding issue following completion of the editorial and production process.
