Abstract

Since the development of  in vitro selection of nucleic acids new functional capabilities of RNA have  been discovered, thereby increasing the plausibility of the «RNA World» hypothesis. This methodology has also allowed researchers to select RNA and ssDNA aptamers that bind to different target molecules with  high affinity and specificity. Aptamers are currently used in a wide array of applications in biotechnology  and biomedicine.
