Abstract

The Royal Society, founded in 1660, is one of the pioneering scientific societies. Its first secretary, Henry Oldenburg, launched the Philosophical Transactions in March 1635, a journal aimed at promoting modern science with a monthly frequency and an initial price of one shilling. In 2015, it celebrated 350 years since its foundation… and the journal is still “alive and kicking”! Thus, Philosophical Transactions is the first and longest-running scientific journal in the world.
