Considerations on cooperation and evolution

Abstract

Traditionally, Biological Science has given competition for resources a central role as a factor in the evolutionary development of organisms and ecosystems through the process of natural selection. On the contrary, studies around cooperation as a key element in evolution are more scarce and less disseminated. In this article, I will try to make the reader notice that this excessive emphasis on competition as a vehicle for evolution represents a significant bias in our vision of the organization and functioning of Nature, largely imposed by the dominant economic and political trend, which has little to do with Charles Darwin’s original work.
