Abstract

In September 2012, Seville became the international capital of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, disciplines that are currently essential engines for the economic development and social well-being of the most advanced societies. With the participation of 2,500 scientists from all over the world, including six Nobel laureates, this was the first time that such a Congress was held in Spain. Parallel to this and under the heading ‘Science in the street’, the city was the scene of numerous activities for the dissemination and diffusion of scientific knowledge. The Congress served as a prologue to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and other European institutions
