Abstract

The conservation of species of living beings that inhabit the Earth has become a value shared by most human societies today. The need to defend these collective values leads societies to organize themselves into institutions that, in the case of affecting universal goods or values, such as the conservation of biodiversity, must act on a global scale. In this context, the first World Conference on the Human Environment, organized by the UN and held in Stockholm in June 1972, led to the creation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), based in Nairobi.
