Abstract

It is appropriate to start this article by mimicking the introductory lines written by Márquez (2008), in her Memory for obtaining the Advanced Studies Diploma in the Doctoral Program titled “Biology and Technology of Hunting Resources”, as they accurately synthesize the millennial and seemingly irreconcilable struggle that humanity has maintained with predators. According to the aforementioned author, since time immemorial, man has made use of all available means at his disposal to provide himself with hunting, as well as to protect his physical integrity and that of his domestic animals from the attack of pests and beasts. For this, he has used a set of weapons and procedures (nets, snares, traps, pits and corrals, slabs, trap cages, poisoned baits…) of artisanal manufacture, many of them specifically designed and built for the capture of dangerous or competing species (Boza, 2003).
