Abstract

As the years go by, it is surprising to reread what was written, especially when what was written intended to deal with ‘the latest’ in science. Sometimes it even bothers, when it is verified that what was written with the pretense of current affairs was already born obsolete. This reflection is born from the rereading of the article ‘Cellular cardiomyoplasty: stem cells for heart repair’, appeared in issue 86 of Encounters in Biology (March 2003). In that article we pointed out the great expectations aroused by the treatment of myocardial infarction with cells obtained from the patient’s own bone marrow.
