Abstract

There are probably more studies on NMDA-type receptors than on any other receptor in the nervous system. The reason is quite simple, NMDA receptors, in addition to being very abundant in the nervous system, are involved in numerous functions, some of them as important for the proper functioning of the brain as learning or memory, while on other occasions they are involved in mechanisms of neuronal death or in diseases such as epilepsy.
