Abstract

Natural selection, proposed by Darwin as the engine and guide of the evolution of species, has often been used to justify war, domination, exploitation, etc. Stephen J. Gould in his book ‘Bully for Brontosaurus’ provides several reasons why such justifications are not valid, with his main argument being that moral lessons cannot be derived from the functioning of the natural world.
