Abstract

After a millennia-long confrontation between bacteria and humans, the golden age of antibiotics in recent decades has generated a short period of human superiority that is coming to an end.  With the appearance of bacteria resistant to the antibiotics used to control them, the development of new drugs is once again of immeasurable importance. From the use of endolysins capable of killing the bacteria to the inhibition of quorum sensing responsible for virulence, the strategies to address the problem are manifold. It is imperative once again to prioritize the search for new antibiotics or strategies to deal with the emerging multiresistant and persistent bacterial strains.
