Throughout the conversation with filmmaker Manuel Martín Cuenca, various aspects of his professional trajectory are explored: from the early steps that led him to enter the world of cinema and the experiences that shaped his training, to a detailed review of his filmography. The discussion also delves into more specific issues related to his style and his perspective as an author, such as shot planning, the expressive value of sound and the way it interacts with the image, the presence and function of landscape in his films, and the construction of marginal characters who often occupy the center of his narrative universe. These themes acquire particular significance in the analysis of a body of work that spans from La mitad de Óscar (2010) to La hija (2021)—a period he describes as a “refounding,” during which his cinema reaches a stylistic maturity and thematic coherence that confirm Martín Cuenca as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary filmmaking.
