This thesis analyzes the effects of physical exercise in the rehabilitation of people with addictions at the Hogares Claret Foundation, Medellín, highlighting the value of exercise as a therapeutic tool in the recovery process. With a qualitative approach based on interviews and focus groups, the research focuses on understanding how physical exercise influences participants' physical, mental and social well-being, and explores their experiences to identify perceived benefits The results indicate that exercise not only helps to improve users' physical health, but also acts as an important resource for reducing anxiety and stress, conditions that often increase the desire for consumption. Participants also expressed that exercise allows them to channel emotions and keep a busy mind, which facilitates greater self-control over addiction and promotes a sense of achievement and personal satisfaction. On the emotional side, exercise strengthens mood and helps establish a routine, factors that promote the emotional stability necessary for successful rehabilitation.
The study also highlights the relevance of social and family support, identifying that interaction with other rehabilitation peers and support from relatives are essential aspects for motivation and continuity in treatment. In this sense, the group exercise emerges as a valuable activity, since it allows participants to feel accompanied and share common experiences, generating a sense of community and mutual support that reduces the risk of relapseThe presence of a social and emotional support network is identified as a crucial factor in maintaining progress made in rehabilitation.
Finally, this study suggests that physical exercise can be a transformative element in the rehabilitation of people with addictions, since it not only positively impacts on physical health, but also contributes to emotional and social well-being, Key elements for successful treatment programmes The research suggests that physical activity and sports professionals should play an active role in rehabilitation, integrating exercise programs specifically designed to support users' recovery and social reintegration. These findings highlight the importance of a holistic approach in rehabilitation programs, where physical exercise is not only used as a health tool but also as a mechanism for building a full and healthy life free from addictions.
