Hegel's Alienation: a plural concept

In Hegel “alienation” is said with three terms that express a multiplicity of meanings. This
concept has been central since his early writings. This contribution aims to retrace the path of
alienation in Hegelian thought in order to recover its depth and plurality. The passage through
Hegelian thought is still fundamental in order to grasp the extent of the category of alienation.
The return to Hegel thus allows us to regain the richness of the concept that the authors of
contemporary critical theory are trying to reconstruct in their attempt to recover alienation as a diagnostic category of our present.
