Abstract

The present article aims to analyze the representation of domestic interiors in the pictorial work of João Gabriel, focusing on various figurative strategies employed to capture a particular domestic experience characteristic of queer identities from the past. Thus, through the tangential evocation of a fleeting and hurried private experience, a queer domesticity that has been marginalized is recovered, while also exploring possibilities for its representation. This analysis is not only relevant for acknowledging those historically obscured experiences but also for envisioning other potential domesticities that assist the LGBTQ+ community in imagining contemporary domesticities that transcend the confines of neoliberalism and homonormativity, leveraging the intrinsic potentials of language, pictorial materiality, and the creative power of the image.
