Abstract

This paper presents the results of the study of the different buildings devoted to Cinema in the city of Jaén, by analysing documentary and visual sources. From the very first screening,  in 1898 in a large booth, until the opening, in 1966, of the last great building constructed exclusively for this function, we offer  an overview of the movie theater typology evolution in the city. This study is divided into two parts, the first one deals with the spaces used before the emergence of the movie theater proper; while the second one does the same with the buildings designed after the typology had been assumed as a valid solution by Spanish architects.
