Abstract

The figure of Luis de Carvajal matches at the same time and in the same place of El Greco. Carvajal, as all the painters of that time, was eclipsed by the shadow of the Cretan painter. This circumstance explains why he’s still today an unknown and why his work, difficult to see and dispersed, is subject to more or less secure attributions. In 2006, the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla la Mancha bought a canvas about the imposition of the chasuble at san Ildefonso, supposedly by Luis de Carvajal. This fact serves as starting point to make a start on the day of the knowledge about his career and move forward on some issues that have gone more unnoticed, as the real relationship or not with the Greco models.
