Abstract

The oval floor is one of the most characteristic typology of the mannerist language in Architecture. The reasons of its appearance are owing to its varied nature, from ideological to formal ones. Peruzzi´s theoretical essays and, above all, Serlio's ones which were carried out in action by Vignola and Francesco Capriani da Volterra in Rome.
