FOCUS AND SCOPE

Although there are many journals that we can find in our areas of knowledge, we believe that many of them have been instrumentalizing practices and analysis at the service of disseminating research results, in many cases disconnected from the interests of the educational community. Faced with this, our proposal is aimed at recovering pedagogical and didactic reflection as a central element of educational discourse, subordinating the importance of tools to the epistemological, methodological and axiological approach, that is, focusing on how and, above all, in the why and for what. We are interested, therefore, in rescuing and giving prominence to didactic theorizing, pedagogical reflection and innovative praxis as fundamental pillars of education, in order to promote critical thinking within the framework of analysis, studies and democratic and participatory. And all this by offering a space for expression both to teachers and teachers as well as to students of the faculties of Education.

We at Márgenes magazine are convinced that the current editorial policy, based on impact indexes, has many critics and hardly helps the democratic dissemination of knowledge [San Francisco Declaration of Evaluation of Research: Spanish | English] [link 1; link 2; link 3link 4; link 5]; This situation has been revealed by a recent Supreme Court ruling [link]. Even so, we are aware of the impact, especially on young teachers and researchers, that these quality criteria have on their academic careers. That is why we are going to work to improve the impact of the magazine, without sacrificing along the way our concern for quality content that is structured from a concrete and coherent perspective of education. For this purpose, we rely on the work and criteria of a committed scientific council of recognized prestige, and with a team of reviewers who are equally competent and committed to the journal's policy.

The aforementioned hegemonic editorial policy is also contributing to the rise of a vision of education supported by external evaluation and housed in quantitative and experimentalist approaches that, consequently, mortgage approaches to educational processes and contexts based on understanding and interpretation of meanings and senses.

The Márgenes magazine emerges as an alternative to give visibility to these other approaches to education, from qualitative methodological approaches that currently find few spaces for publication, dissemination and discussion. At this point, we want to make it clear that the question is not merely instrumental nor is it resolved through the intermediate route of mixed methods. We are convinced that, in the face of the search for objectivity that is promulgated from the positivist paradigm, ideology is an inherent part of education and as such, it is impossible to separate publications from the way in which we approach knowing reality. . A scientific discussion that is by no means new (Denzin, 1978; Stake, 1975; Eisner, 1979; Guba, 1978, 1979, 1985; Guba and Lincoln, 1985; Paredes, 2009; Bassols, 1982; Pérez, 2011), but which, however, we are interested in reconsidering in this magazine. In our view, education as a social science, epistemologically, demands its own methods that are far from the experimental ones. That is why it seems important to us to make explicit the vision of education that we have in our magazine:

 • Our research perspective is focused on the qualitative paradigm, showing interest in publishing research, phenomenological, ethnographic, naturalistic, evaluative, biographical-narrative, action-research studies and experiences , among others.
 • We believe that knowledge should be a tool to solve practical problems and, therefore, we are not interested in those experiences or studies that see knowledge as an instrumental issue.
 • We believe in an inclusive public school and we identify with a vision of socio-constructivist learning: we understand that this is a unique and personal process, different for each person and that cannot be measured.
 • We are concerned about the didactic methodology and the role of education professionals: we believe that improving education inevitably involves improving the activities we design.

The Márgenes Magazine will publish papers that contribute to enriching knowledge in education, fundamentally focused on the specific paradigm exposed above.

The works must be original, have not been published in any medium or be in the process of publication, being the responsibility of the authors and the authors compliance with this rule.

The type of contributions can be found in the Sections section of the Rules for authors-as.

The rest of the information about the format in which contributions should be submitted can be found in Author Guidelines.

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

The role of the editor-in-chief is very important: the role is held by an individual with very good knowledge of the profession, common sense, and tact to be consistent with our commitment to a friendly review process.

Our chief editor receives the articles and initially assesses their suitability for the journal's approach and their scientific quality, and in doubtful cases consults the management. This first selection of the articles by the management team is essential, since only this team has the general vision of the objectives and the level of quality that the magazine pursues.

The editor-in-chief performs two more tasks: checking the originality of the text by searching the Internet and using some applications to detect plagiarism; and take care that the texts meet the anonymity criteria of the journal (in the text and in the document properties). At this point, each manuscript is assigned to an editor, who will continue the editorial process.

The editor will be in charge of assigning two reviewers to the manuscript. The Scientific Committee, made up of people chosen for their academic and professional prestige, is in charge of carrying out a part of the reviews of the works by the double-blind method, according to which authors and reviewers do not know. Another important part of the reviews are carried out by specialists in the subject matter of the articles in question, totally external and without ties to the journal. The exchange of messages is carried out exclusively through the chief editor and the OJS platform.

The journal considers the work of peer review to be very important, and that is why it places special interest and dedication in the selection of reviewers for its own database, focusing on their academic and professional quality and that they are experts on specific topics.

In cases where male and female reviewers make suggestions for improvements to the articles, there will be two rounds of review (and sometimes as many as three).

Once the article has been definitively accepted, the editor passes to the exclusive review of style, spelling, expression, review of additional materials (graphics, illustrations, photos of the authors), etc. If necessary, it will ask the authors for new style corrections or additional material in better conditions (resolution of images, documents, etc.).

Once this stage is finished, the material will be formatted and published in the corresponding issue of the magazine. This will be communicated to the author or author by means of a copy of a digital certificate in case they need it in any accrediting process while the article is in press or editing.

Margins magazine's commitment is not to extend review times beyond 4 weeks from receipt of the article.

HISTORY OF THE MAGAZINE

The Márgenes magazine emerges as an alternative to give visibility to other educational paradigms.

We do not believe in the veracity of the impact indices, as shown by numerous studies [San Francisco Statement of Research Evaluation: Spanish English] [link to study 2]. We are convinced that, in the face of the fallacy of objectivity that is promulgated from other publications, ideology is an inherent part of education and as such, it is impossible to separate the publications from the way in which we approach knowing reality. That is why it seems important to us to make explicit the vision of education that we have in our magazine:

 • Our research perspective focuses on the qualitative paradigm, therefore we are not interested in quantitative studies in our area of an experimental or quasi-experimental nature. On the contrary, we are interested in publishing research, phenomenological studies and experiences, grounded theory, narrative, ethnographic, naturalistic, evaluative and ethnomethodological, among others, such as: case studies, biographical-narrative, action-research, critical incidents, …< /li>
 • We believe that knowledge should be a tool to solve practical problems and, therefore, we are not interested in those experiences or studies that see knowledge as an instrumental issue.
 • We identify with a constructivist vision of learning: we understand that this is a unique and personal process, different for each person and that cannot be measured or valued.
 • We are concerned about the didactic methodology and the role of the teacher: we believe that improving the school inevitably involves improving the activities that teachers do with their students and this is a methodological issue.

 • We believe in a public school for everyone: as inclusive as possible.
 • We flee from rankings and the fashionable perspective in evaluation associated with measurement.
