The evaluation of teaching practice and the pedagogical thinking of teachers have always been considered relevant topics of study among the educational scientific community. In this article, the first lines of research developed by the HUM-311 Group are presented: Rethinking education, Research, Innovation and Evaluation Group of Andalusia, directed by Professor Ángel I. Pérez Gómez and founded in the early 1980s. Two research projects that served to establish two fundamental axes that are still current and that pose a challenge to improve the training processes of future professionals and the transformation of teaching-learning processes in the classroom. The first of them, focused on the psychopedagogical thinking of teachers, aimed to analyze and verify the possible effects of initial training programs on them, as well as to analyze the dimensions that make up the pedagogical thinking of teachers and their influence on professional practice. The second, focused on the evaluation of the reform of the upper cycle of General, Basic Education, sought to know the functioning of educational centers, as well as the opinion of parents and teachers about the experimentation that was being carried out. At the same time, the context and ins and outs of the time in which both investigations were developed are portrayed, transporting us to a time when data and information analysis techniques still did not enjoy the technological advances that we have today.
